History
The origins of iCARE date back to 2003,when Matt Dalio founded Harvard China Care. He later founded the China Care Foundation in 2006. In 2009, the foundation partnered with Half the Sky Foundation, which now goes by the name of OneSky.
I started the first China Care club when I was in college because I wanted to give my fellow classmates the same change I had – to bring hope to orphans in China who were desperate for medical care. I was just a kid myself, but I realize what a difference I was making in these children’s lives and could only imagine how much more of an impact an entire network of students could make. - Matt Dalio
Since then, over 115 official and affiliated China Care clubs were founded at universities and colleges across the nation. The China Care network as a whole has raised over $500,000.
The Penn chapter, an internationally recognized organization, initially began as the UPenn China Care Club. The club later decided to change its name to iCARE in order to expand the mentorship program to all internationally adopted children and to make children not adopted from China feel welcome in the organization's community.
